As Socrates said, “the unexamined life is not worth living.” This is the truth but how many of us actually take the time to look back at the year gone by and ask ourselves what it is we learned?
Truth is, we are in too much of a rush to get the New Year started that we seldom look back and reflect upon the situations/people that helped get us to where we are today.
It is only in looking back (briefly) and learning from the past that we can build a better future. Yes, the unexamined life is NEVER worth living. So, lets live differently. Take stock of what you learned last year, where you are now and what you want out of life this coming year. That will help to make all the difference in the world.
Do you want things to get better? It’s up to you to make those improvements. Ask yourself…
What worked for me last year?
What didn’t work?
What do I need in my life that I do not currently have?
What behavior served me well?
What behavior didn’t serve me at all?
What would I change if I could?
Answering these questions reflects the difference between consciously walking forward in life and passively sleepwalking your way through it. Which one do you want to be doing? Here’s the deal, if we do not learn from our past, we are destined to repeat it.
Time to get the learning. Do you want to walk into the new year awake, alive and conscious or do you want to continue sleepwalking? It’s a new year and the choice is always yours. Happy New Year!
