You Don’t Always Get What You Want

December 22, 2014

th-1…. you get what you choose.

And they are not always the same thing.

The only thing we have in life are our choices. We live and die by them. The quality of our life is completely contingent on the quality of the choices we make.

How often do we complain that we are not getting our needs met in a certain relationship or at a certain job? But how can we complain when we set it up that way? Who is to blame really?

In life, you will NOT always get what you want, but you will certainly get what you choose. So if your choice is not giving you the desired results you would like, it might be time to make another choice for yourself.

You are always in control of your life – at every juncture. No one has control over your life unless you give it to them. You are not being punished, you are not a victim of your life, if you are not getting what you want or what you need, it is time to look at the choices you have made thus far and make some new choices.

Don’t spend your time trying to change people to make them what you want or need. That’s not your job. Your job is to change yourself and the choices you make so that they better suit your needs and wants.

Life is a delicate dance of all the choices you make. So remember, it’s not about your needs and wants. It’s about what you are choosing that will determine the quality of your life. You don’t always get what you want, but you will certainly get what you choose. So choose wisely.

I appreciate this so much. This year, I've had a lot of frustration at work and in my personal's been exhausting mentally...but I've avoided kicking myself for it. I'm just not in the right place. It's not about lack of clarity up to now, but I will be caring more for myself and choosing the things that I want in 2015. In the past, I've seen it work!

Thank you so much for your comments. We really are in control. It's never about your needs and wants, it's always about WHAT YOU ARE CHOOSING that will either support that need/want or will prevent you from having it. Definitely love and nurture yourself, that is a first step and then you will find that it will be easier to make choices that support you in that loving process. Happy Holidays! Always, donnalynn

When You Walk With Your Head Down

… you walk into walls. It’s common sense. When you’re not looking where you’re going, you’re most likely going to end up somewhere you don’t want to be. Most of us sleepwalk our way through our lives — running the mouse wheel of life. We are so busy trying to make a living that we […]

It’s Not About Making The Right Choice

… it’s about accepting the choice you’ve already made. Our life’s path is made up of choices and there are no mistakes when it comes to making choices, because there are no right or wrong choices, there are only different choices. Don’t get caught up in the choice you’ve made – make it and move on. […]

Looking Back to the Past

… is only helpful to the extent it allows you to move forward into your future.  If it doesn’t, it keeps you back. Your life is only ever in front of you, never behind you. The past can be an informative tool if we don’t get trapped in it. If you want to uncover the […]

A Mid-life Crisis

… requires a mid-course correction. A mid-life crisis can happen at any age, but the wisdom here is that the secret to healing it, is in the way we define it. Life naturally has its ups and downs, and life is constantly asking you to define who you are in relationship to it. You’re never […]

When You’re in the Flow

… everything moves with you. And when you are not, nothing works. When you are in the flow of your life – flowing downstream — everything flows along side you. When you are out of that flow – pushing upstream — things are much more difficult. How do you know the difference? Ask yourself how […]
