DIVINE LOVE

by Veronica A. Shoffstall

It is only after awhile that you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn that love doesn’t mean possession
and company doesn’t mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises and you begin to accept
your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build your roads today
because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
and futures have ways of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
burns if you get too much so you plant your
own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
that you really are strong
and you really do have worth.

In honor of Valentine’s Day I wanted to share this very beautiful piece with you. It is beautiful on so many levels but especially because it teaches us that Love is not something that is meant to complete us. We are already perfect and complete in ourselves. True love is selfless and aware. True love gives of itself unconditionally. What we learn through this piece is that in order to give love unconditionally, one must first learn to love themselves. It is only through your love of the self that true love can be shared between two people. When we strive to make ourselves beautiful and happy inside that beautiful light shines through and projects out to the world around us attracting more of the same. Happy Valentines Day!

you help me help my self ;). You are not a master monk or pope who believes that there is a level of enlighten and that you need to be taught by a master only to achieve happiness and bliss but a true human soul that understand we are who we are and we all have our own path that is meant to be carved. Enjoy your life as will I have a great ride :)

I am so glad it helps you, Zach. My goal is to help everyone to see that enlightenment is possible in this lifetime by understanding ourselves and our journey on earth. It does not have to be delivered through any system of dogma (religious/spiritual beliefs). It is right there for those who are willing to see. Always, xo donnalynn

When You Walk With Your Head Down

… you walk into walls. It’s common sense. When you’re not looking where you’re going, you’re most likely going to end up somewhere you don’t want to be. Most of us sleepwalk our way through our lives — running the mouse wheel of life. We are so busy trying to make a living that we […]

It’s Not About Making The Right Choice

… it’s about accepting the choice you’ve already made. Our life’s path is made up of choices and there are no mistakes when it comes to making choices, because there are no right or wrong choices, there are only different choices. Don’t get caught up in the choice you’ve made – make it and move on. […]

Looking Back to the Past

… is only helpful to the extent it allows you to move forward into your future.  If it doesn’t, it keeps you back. Your life is only ever in front of you, never behind you. The past can be an informative tool if we don’t get trapped in it. If you want to uncover the […]

A Mid-life Crisis

… requires a mid-course correction. A mid-life crisis can happen at any age, but the wisdom here is that the secret to healing it, is in the way we define it. Life naturally has its ups and downs, and life is constantly asking you to define who you are in relationship to it. You’re never […]

When You’re in the Flow

… everything moves with you. And when you are not, nothing works. When you are in the flow of your life – flowing downstream — everything flows along side you. When you are out of that flow – pushing upstream — things are much more difficult. How do you know the difference? Ask yourself how […]
