Falling Away

September 7, 2011

Now that summer has officially ended, we embark on a new season. Fall is a wonderful time of year. It is a time for letting go. It is a time for letting the old parts of ourselves die and fall away.

Just like trees, our colors change… we evolve. No situation and no one ever stays the same. Life keeps moving forward. It is best to allow ourselves time to reflect upon our evolution – what parts of ourselves are we ready to let go of? What behaviors and/or people are no longer serving us? If we want to start over fresh in the spring with a clean slate, we need to do the work of letting go in the fall.

It is the same with people. Sometimes people come into our lives for only a season and others stay awhile longer. It is important to know who is a “seasonal friend” and let them go when it is clear the season has ended.

Everything falls away. Anything and everything that is meant to leave your life leaves at exactly the right time. No sense in trying to hold onto something you think was right for you. Remember what you lose, was never meant to be yours or was only yours for a season.

The tree knows when to let go of its leaves. If it held onto every dead leaf, it would be a very ugly and sad tree. And if it held onto every dead leaf, it would block the progress of new growth preventing the blossoming of new buds. We are no different than nature. For progress to be made in our lives, we need to let go of the old when we feel the season has ended. Being in tune with the cycles of life grounds you in the assurance that what dies to the old, surely begins again anew.

When You Walk With Your Head Down

… you walk into walls. It’s common sense. When you’re not looking where you’re going, you’re most likely going to end up somewhere you don’t want to be. Most of us sleepwalk our way through our lives — running the mouse wheel of life. We are so busy trying to make a living that we […]

It’s Not About Making The Right Choice

… it’s about accepting the choice you’ve already made. Our life’s path is made up of choices and there are no mistakes when it comes to making choices, because there are no right or wrong choices, there are only different choices. Don’t get caught up in the choice you’ve made – make it and move on. […]

Looking Back to the Past

… is only helpful to the extent it allows you to move forward into your future.  If it doesn’t, it keeps you back. Your life is only ever in front of you, never behind you. The past can be an informative tool if we don’t get trapped in it. If you want to uncover the […]

A Mid-life Crisis

… requires a mid-course correction. A mid-life crisis can happen at any age, but the wisdom here is that the secret to healing it, is in the way we define it. Life naturally has its ups and downs, and life is constantly asking you to define who you are in relationship to it. You’re never […]

When You’re in the Flow

… everything moves with you. And when you are not, nothing works. When you are in the flow of your life – flowing downstream — everything flows along side you. When you are out of that flow – pushing upstream — things are much more difficult. How do you know the difference? Ask yourself how […]
