Allowing Your Buttons to Be Pushed

November 25, 2013

Unknown… makes you part of someone else’s story.

We all have our own story to manage but when we allow our “buttons” to be pushed by others, we ditch our own story in favor of starring in someone else’s. And why would we want to co-star in someone else’s drama?

We all have button pushers in our lives (usually family and significant others). The ability to identify these culprits and their button-pushing strategies is the key to owning your power and putting it back into YOU. You should never allow yourself to feel undermined, compromised or disrespected by others. If you notice this behavior and you notice that your reaction is to fight back, then STOP, take a breath, step back from the situation and take yourself out of that story. Clearly it is not your story. By fighting venom with venom, you pull yourself down into that person’s story and it is a long way back to yourself.

The degree to which you will live a balanced and harmonious life is the degree to which you allow yourself to stay focused on YOUR story. Pull back your power and put it where it belongs – into YOU. Your happiness and equanimity of mind is found in the way you react to others. Allowing your buttons to be pushed is a way to guarantee that you will never be emotionally balanced and free. It’s your story, no one else’s. You can only control your story, no one else’s.  So stop co-starring in other peoples’ stories and take the lead role in your own. Your story will end in a much better production with a much happier ending.

It’s Not About Making The Right Choice

… it’s about accepting the choice you’ve already made. Our life’s path is made up of choices and there are no mistakes when it comes to making choices, because there are no right or wrong choices, there are only different choices. Don’t get caught up in the choice you’ve made – make it and move on. […]

Looking Back to the Past

… is only helpful to the extent it allows you to move forward into your future.  If it doesn’t, it keeps you back. Your life is only ever in front of you, never behind you. The past can be an informative tool if we don’t get trapped in it. If you want to uncover the […]

A Mid-life Crisis

… requires a mid-course correction. A mid-life crisis can happen at any age, but the wisdom here is that the secret to healing it, is in the way we define it. Life naturally has its ups and downs, and life is constantly asking you to define who you are in relationship to it. You’re never […]

When You’re in the Flow

… everything moves with you. And when you are not, nothing works. When you are in the flow of your life – flowing downstream — everything flows along side you. When you are out of that flow – pushing upstream — things are much more difficult. How do you know the difference? Ask yourself how […]
